Queen Elizabeth II has died at age 96, according to an announcement from Buckingham Palace on Thursday. The longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-serving female head of state in history, the queen in 2022 celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.
The royal family issued a statement on Thursday, Sept. 8, saying the queen was under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, prior to announcing her death.
